The Kids' Immunity Lollipop Trio: What's in Each Pop

Our Kids' Immunity Lollipop Trio bundles three Vitalolli pops. They look alike, but they aren't all the same kind of product. Here's what's in each one, and what each can and can't do.

Written by Vita Globe Editorial Team | Reviewed against NIH ODS, NCCIH, CDC and AAP guidance and our product listings

What's in the Kids' Immunity Lollipop Trio?

The trio includes our Vitalolli Elderberry Immune Support Lollipops and Vitalolli Vitamin C Lollipops, both dietary supplements, plus Vitalolli Manuka Honey Lollipops, a honey treat with no added vitamins. Vitamin C helps support normal immune function[1]; elderberry research is promising but preliminary[2]. Give one lollipop a day, rotating flavors, and follow each label's age guidance.

Caveat: The Manuka Honey pop is a treat, not a supplement, and we make no immune or health claims for it. Never give honey to babies under 1[4].

Vitalolli Elderberry Immune Support Lollipops

What it is: A dietary supplement. Mixed berry flavor, 5 lollipops per pouch, suggested use one lollipop daily.

What elderberry is: Deep-purple berries with naturally occurring flavonoids and a long history of traditional use. Elderberry is included to support immune health.*

What the research says: NCCIH describes the evidence for elderberry and colds or flu as preliminary, based on a small number of studies[2]. A 2019 meta-analysis of randomized trials reported reduced upper respiratory symptoms, though it included few trials[3]. Most studies were in adults using standardized extracts. Check the Supplement Facts panel on the package for the elderberry amount and full ingredient and allergen information.

Vitalolli Vitamin C Lollipops

What it is: A dietary supplement in Orange and Mango flavors. Suggested use is one lollipop daily.

What vitamin C does: Vitamin C is an essential nutrient and antioxidant that plays a role in normal immune function[1]. Kids need relatively little: 15 mg a day at ages 1 to 3, 25 mg at 4 to 8 and 45 mg at 9 to 13, with upper limits of 400, 650 and 1,200 mg[1]. Check the Supplement Facts panel for the amount per pop and count it with any multivitamin. Learn more in Vitamin C Lollipops for Kids.

Vitalolli Manuka Honey Lollipops

What it is: A honey treat, not a dietary supplement. It's a slow-dissolving lollipop made with genuine Manuka honey from New Zealand, with no added vitamins.

What we don't claim: We make no immune, cough or other health claims for this pop. It's in the trio as the treat day in the rotation.

The honey rule: Honey can contain the bacteria that cause botulism, and the CDC says never to feed honey to a child under 1[4]. More in Is Manuka Honey OK for Kids?.

How should families use the trio?

  • One lollipop a day, rotating between the three flavors, or as directed on each product's label.
  • Follow each label's age guidance. Our individual Vitalolli listings recommend ages 4 and up.
  • Always supervise. Hard candy is a choking hazard for young children, and the AAP recommends keeping it from kids until at least age 4, depending on development[5]. Have kids sit down while they eat it, and toss a pop once it gets small or loose.
  • Store out of reach. They look like candy.
  • Keep food first. Supplements don't replace a varied diet[6].

The honest summary

  • Two pops are supplements: Elderberry and Vitamin C, to support immune health.*
  • One pop is a honey treat: Manuka Honey, with no supplement or health claims.
  • One a day, rotated, with adult supervision and the label's age guidance.
  • No honey for babies under 12 months.
