The Immunity Trio: Vitamin C, Zinc and Elderberry, What Each One Actually Does

The Immunity Trio layers three of the best-known immune nutrients into one seasonal routine. Here's what each one does, and how much is too much.

Written by Vita Globe Editorial Team | Reviewed against peer-reviewed research and NIH guidance

What does each part of the Immunity Trio do?

Vitamin C and zinc both play roles in normal immune function.[1][2] Elderberry has been studied for cold and flu symptoms, with mixed results.[3] The zinc pouch also has vitamin D and echinacea.[4][5]

Caveat: These don't prevent colds or flu. Add up your zinc from all sources: the NIH sets the adult upper limit at 40mg a day.[2]

Why these three are bundled together

Fall and winter are when people reach for immune support. This trio puts our Vitamin C Gummies, Zinc pouch and Elderberry Gummies in one routine instead of three separate purchases, for less than buying them individually.

What vitamin C actually does

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that supports normal immune function and collagen formation.[1] Taking it regularly hasn't been shown to prevent colds in most people, though some studies suggest it may slightly shorten them.[1] Our Vegan Vitamin C Gummies have 250mg per serving.

What zinc actually does

Zinc is a mineral the immune system needs to work normally.[2] More isn't better: long-term intake above 40mg a day can cause problems, including lower copper levels.[2] Our Zinc pouch also includes vitamin D, which supports immune function,[4] and echinacea, an herb with mixed research for colds.[5]

What elderberry actually does

Elderberry has been used traditionally for colds and flu. A few small studies suggest it may help with symptoms, but the research is limited.[3] Our Elderberry Gummies also contain vitamin C and zinc, so count those toward your totals.

OUR OPTION

The Immunity Trio includes Vitamin C Gummies (60ct), a Zinc pouch (14ct) and Elderberry Gummies (60ct). Prefer two? See The Winter Wellness Duo.

STAY CONSISTENT

Supplements only help if you actually take them. Our 7-Day Pill Organizer keeps a week of gummies sorted so it's harder to skip a day. See the full Vita Globe Merch line →

Frequently Asked Questions

Is that too much zinc?

It depends on everything else you take. Add up zinc from all supplements and stay under the 40mg adult upper limit.[2]

Can kids take this?

No. These are adult formulas. See The Kids' Immunity Lollipop Trio for kids 4+.

When should I start?

Many people take it through fall and winter. Follow each label's suggested use.
